THE PAPER BOAT PROJECT

The Paper Boat Project is an initiative based around the restoration of urban waterways. It is designed as an exciting day out that gets children enthusiastic about interacting with, and learning about the importance of our environment.

The aim of the event itself is to gradually return urbanised river sections to a more natural and flourishing state through a Paper Boat Race. Each boat is made from 100% eco-friendly and biodegradable paper encased with native seeds specifically chosen to aid the restoration of the chosen site. For our start up event based on the Owheo river in Dunedin, we encased Harakeke flax seeds and Carex Secta. As the boats dissolve in the water, both of these seeds will float and wait until they make contact with land to start the germination process.

Along with designing and planning this event to the point of start-up, we created an identity for the event, posters, event kits, instruction guides, badges, production plans, social media platforms, an illustrated guide for adults and children and the bio-degradable paper boats.
